If you’re like most people, about 3 months ago you set yourself some resolutions for 2018.

You probably told yourself, that this year would be different – you’re older and you’re wiser!

How is that going for you?

If you’re like 92% of the world (according to Forbes.com*) then probably not so well.

The good news is – that’s TOTALLY fine.

Think of your goals like sailing a ship and you’re the captain –

Over time the ship will drift of course, and you’re going to need to make mini adjustments to get it back on course!

So if you feel like you’ve drifted of course – don’t jump off the boat, instead think about what little adjustments you can make to get back on course!

Here are a few things you can consider:

Have you ever wondered why we all make resolutions during the New Year? It’s normally at this time where we have time to ourselves – our brains aren’t clouded with stress from work, life, or family.

It’s at this time where our brains are able to function more creatively, and consider the possibilities of what YOU want from YOUR life. This is a similar effect that happens when people go on holiday, or take LONG hot showers.

Getting caught up in the daily grind of work and life can often put us into auto pilot – it’s hard to live deliberately if you’re always putting out fires!

The good news is, taking 5 minutes every day to remind yourself of your goals (or just have a long hot shower) can be enough to get your back on course.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither were the actions and habits that created your current health and fitness.

It’s very easy to have a grand vision for our lives, but achieving this grand vision takes hundreds, and thousands of little steps and decision.

Instead of working on a 2018 resolution, why not consider a April goal? Look at your current actions, and see what steps you could make to improve them and get them CLOSER to your goals.

Training 3x week? Why not try 4. Are you weekends a complete write off? Why not have 1 weekend every 2 weeks.

Contrary to the previous point – perhaps you just need to give yourself a good kick up the backside!

You’ve been here before – 92% of us have. Work, life and stress hit and instead of prioritzing our goals, we default back to what we know.

The good news is, your default doesn’t always have to remain the same – it can change (with some effort)

Think of something you’re REALLY good at – your job, a sport you play, maybe a recipe?

Chances are, it wasn’t easy at the start but with time and practice it became easier. The same can be said for the actions and habits it takes for you to achieve your goals.

In summary – you can do this!

Being ‘over’ your New Years resolutions is totally normal and it’s up to you to decide whether to stay the course, or change it.

Here are some tips that I’ve found help:

Make one small change – write it somewhere, and remind yourself EVERY day
Take 5 minutes every day to remind yourself of your goal
Schedule a fortnightly goal setting and accountability session with a friend
Break your goals into weekly, monthly chunks
Celebrate your achievements – even the small ones!
