Happy Monday Team! How is everyone going with their mini challenges? This week’s challenge is pretty easy and will set us all up nicely for the Paleo month we have ahead. So, this week:

Get rid of of all the non-paleo foods in your house….

If it comes in a packet or has more then one ingredient – chances are it’s probably not Paleo. The Paleolithic diet consists mainly of fish, grass-fed pasture raised meats, eggs, vegetables, fruit, fungi, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, potatoes, refined salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.

We’re not one for wasting food at CFU, so here are some ideas to help with the disposal of non-cavemen foods:

  • Eat some after a workout (Nutrient Timing)
If there’s ever a time to indulge, it would be after a training session – our muscles are hungry and running on empty! Carbohydrates consumed post-workout are used to replenish this energy supply, which means there isn’t much left over to store in fat cells. This means the best time to dispose of those Tim tams/spike your insulin is after a workout, when muscles readily take in nutrients for repair.  The world of nutrient timing is vast and complex, but as a rule of thumb if you are looking to lose fat – the further away your meal is from your workout, the less carbs you should have.
  • Donate some of it!
I believe we only have a finite amount of will power per day and there’s no point using it up on situations we can control / avoid.  So donate it to someone less fortunate – here are some places to go –  https://www.givenow.com.au/otherways/food#_Victoria.  If you’d like, you can drop off the food at the Gym, and we’ll donate it all in one go!
  • Enjoy it
Hopefully by the end of this week you should have successfully removed most non paleo foods from your house by either experimenting with nutrient timing, or  just by being a charitable person and donating it to someone less fortunate – Well done you!  Reward yourself, and take the weekend to finish up that half opened pack of dumplings;  the half eaten tub of ice cream; and the 4 beers out of 6 you didn’t drink last weekend.

Make sure your house is free of temptations – so that on Tuesday you’re ready to crush this Paleo month!
